Deontik has developed a set of process and business rule templates for contract lifecycle management through many years of research and practice. These templates are derived from our Business Contracts Architecture and cover a range of contract lifecycle management functions, policies and governance activities.
Contract management and associated processes follow relatively standard patterns across industries and countries. Deontik has developed a set of templates for common processes and process fragments that serve as a basis for definining specific organisational contract lifecycle management processes, including:
The process templates include BPMN definitions of the process or process fragment accompanied by instructions for application and extension. These templates are most suitable for use with tools based on the BPMN notation but can be applied effectively with other process notations and tools.
Contract lifecycle processes often require business rules to govern the processes and implement decisions relating to process flow. Deontik has developed a set of rule templates that capture the key characteristics and evaluation logic associated with common business rules, including:
Each of these includes a document template for process owners and analysts to accurately specify contract-related rules. Evaluation logic and implementation guidelines are also provided to assist implementers in codifying the rules. The behaviour associated with rules is often best specified using event patterns, where the actions of parties are captured in events. Event patterns for rule conditions are defined where appropriate. We use the concepts from our EventSwarm framework in defining these patterns. Sample BPMN process fragments that implement flow logic associated with the rule templates are also provided where appropriate.
The rule templates are most suitable for use with business rule engines integrated with BPMN process management tools but can be applied effectively with other process notations and tools.
